Fishing

OVER 2 MILES OF DOUBLE BANK FISHING ON THE RIVER DOON

The river rushes from Loch Doon through Ness Glen gorge. It takes on a calmer character as it flows through parkland, woods and wetlands before entering the 75-acre Bogton Loch on its way to the Atlantic.

You can fish from dawn until dusk, Monday to Saturday. Fishing is by fly only. Fly fishing lessons, which are highly recommended, can be arranged on request.

At an additional charge we can also arrange for a ghillie with good local knowledge to accompany you.

SALMON SEASON

March 15th to October 31st. The main run of salmon is in the late autumn, with a smaller run in midsummer. Around 400 salmon have been recorded passing through the counter at the exit of Loch Doon.

TROUT SEASON

March 15th to October 6th. Brown trout are plentiful from May onwards.

Contact the Estate Office to find out more about purchasing fishing permits.

Kayaking

This activity is run by Active Outdoor Pursuits

The lochs and water ways located throughout Craigengillan Estate provide options for all skill levels.

Those who are new to kayaking or canoeing can arrange professional instruction with the team at Active Outdoor Pursuits.

The Ness Glen river gorge is for the experienced canoeist, providing challenging white water. It is suited only to those with extensive white-water knowledge. If you are comfortable on grade 3+ rivers, Ness Glen is for you.

The river is fed from Loch Doon, with consistent water levels 365 days of the year. Please take care during sustained wet weather periods, as the increased flow can bring the grading from 3+ to 4.
