KAYAKING

LOCH DOON IS THE LARGEST INLAND LOCH IN SOUTHERN SCOTLAND

It’s eight miles long, up to four miles wide and it’s surrounded by the wild and highland like landscape of the Galloway Forest.

Ness Glen is for the experienced canoeist. The river gorge provides challenging white water, suited only to those with extensive white-water knowledge. If you are comfortable on grade 3+ rivers, Ness Glen is for you. It is ideal for Olympic training.

The river is fed from Loch Doon, with consistent water levels 365 days of the year. Please take care during sustained wet weather periods, as the increased flow can bring the grading from 3+ to 4.

Put in is from below the Roundhouse café by the Loch Doon damn. For take out, head back down the road, then take the first track on the left to the bridge at the foot of Ness Glen where parking can be found.

Please remember that although you’re most welcome to use the rivers, there won’t be an instructor to hand. We advise you to be sure you’re comfortable with the conditions before entering the water.
