Fishing

Craigengillan Estate has two miles of probably the most attractive and varied double bank fishing on the River Doon.

The river emerges from Loch Doon and rushes headlong through Ness Glen gorge before taking on a more gentle character as it flows through parkland, woods and wetlands before entering the 60 acre Bogton Loch.

The estate has about 2 ½ miles of double bank fishing on the River Doon, from Loch Doon to the bridge downstream from Bogton Loch.  The river varies in character form the rushing waters of Ness Glen to the attractive pools on the lower beats.

The season for salmon fishing is from 15th March until 31st October and that for trout from 15th March until 6th October.
Fishing is by fly and worm only and brown trout are plentiful from May onwards.
The main run of salmon is in the late autumn, with a smaller one in midsummer.  About 400 salmon are recorded passing through the counter at the exit form Loch Doon.

Seatrout are beginning to return and we operate a catch and release policy for them.
Fishing is from dawn until dusk except by prior agreement and is from Monday to Saturday inclusive.
A ghillie with good local knowledge can be arranged if required.
